For example, ISO 26262 has higher safety requirements for autonomous driving applications. In addition, hyundai has a growing number of high-precision actuators that must provide digital interfaces (such as SENT, SPI, and PSI5), low-power modes, and 3-d capabilities.

Spurious magnetic fields are a growing challenge

The requirement of stray magnetic fields is a major challenge, especially for magnetic field sensors.Electric motors and power lines in hybrid (HEV) and pure electric (BEV) cars carry high currents and generate magnetic fields that can interfere with magnetic field sensors.A modern hall effect sensor must provide robust spurious field immunity in accordance with the latest ISO 11452-8 standards and associated OEM requirements. In the past, people used to change the magnetic field intensity of the magnets in the application to balance the external interference field. However, considering the cost, the design of magnet structure is becoming more and more miniaturized, which makes the active stray magnetic field compensation necessary for the magnetic field sensor.

HAL ® 39 xy position sensor series, the unique concept of stray magnetic field

New Micronas HAL ® 39 xy position sensor series successfully reached all these challenging goals.Hall sensor can not only accurately measure the magnetic field, but also has low sensitivity to interference magnetic field.Their unique spurious magnetic field concept is based on a vertical and horizontal hall plate array. The core of the sensor is the patented 3D hall pixel unit.Highly flexible sensor arrays enable design engineers to select the best stray field concept for different measurement tasks.

HAL 39xy series has four different measurement modes:

• linear position detection with stray field compensation

With the rotation of the stray magnetic field compensation 360 ° Angle detection

With the rotation of the stray magnetic field compensation 180 ° Angle detection

• true 3D magnetic field detection (Bx, By and Bz)

Each mode USES a different combination of hall plates to ensure the best performance of each mode. The HAL39xy is the only solution on the market that integrates four modes into a single device, giving customers a clear advantage: they can use one device for different applications without having to use multiple hardware versions.

Flexible architecture that can be customized and shaped quickly

HAL 39xy series adopts flexible architecture to support different configuration methods. It has powerful DSP and embedded microcontroller, among which DSP is mainly responsible for fast signal processing (Angle calculation, compensation, etc.), while microcontroller is responsible for the overall scheduling, interface configuration and monitoring of the tasks related to functional security. The development of custom firmware can be used by two modules.Coupled with the flexible hall front end, this enables customers to implement a variety of new applications, such as custom signal processing or support for new interface standards.HAL 39xy's innovative architecture makes it easier for customers to apply rapid prototyping technology to develop new solutions and to quickly adapt to changes in new interfaces, such as SENT and PSI5.

Unique solutions for a wide range of automotive and industrial applications

With the new Micronas HAL 39x series, TDK is now able to provide a unique solution to meet the latest requirements of magnetic field position sensor. These sensors are widely used in a variety of automotive and industrial applications, including:

• all types of valves and actuators (e.g. cooling valves, EGR, turbo actuators)

• selector and transmission

• pedal position detection

• position detection of the gearbox

• steering Angle detection

• chassis position detection

TDK will be the first to release SOCI8 packaged HAL 3900 (SPI), HAL 3930 (SENT/PWM) and HAL3980 (PSI5) sensors.Engineering design samples are now available for pre-order.More wrapper types and other interface types will be provided in the future.
